Briefing Papers from the
Council for the Mathematical Sciences
The Council for the Mathematical
Sciences (CMS) is a body whose members are the Presidents and Executive
Secretaries of the three mathematical learned societies: the London Mathematical
Society (LMS), the Institute of Mathematics
and its Applications (IMA) and the
Royal Statistical Society (RSS)
This paper was prepared by a working group consisting of Peter Saunders
(LMS; chair), Charles Goldie (HoDoMS), Gerald Goodall (RSS) and David Abrahams
(IMA). The degree title associated with four year undergraduate programmes
in mathematics and/or statistics is not the same in every university, but
MMath is the most common, and we use it here.
